This is the first of hopefully many posts about our group. We are still in the process of forming a cohesive collective, so please feel free to offer suggestions on all aspects of our meetings.
These are a few ideas that we have had but, again, nothing is set in stone so please feel free to make any suggestions. This is YOUR group!
For the first story, I was hoping that we could read James Joyce's "The Dead." This is considered by many to be one of the greatest short stories in the English Language. I've heard of writing classes where the teachers have had the students read this story several times to unlock the beautiful mysteries of this text. No matter what genre we write in, I believe it is essential to master the craft of writing, and what better way to do such then by reading the masters! For this reason, I've proposed that we read this work during this upcoming month. The library should have a copy or two. This comes from the collection of short stories by James Joyce called "Dubliners." If you can't get a copy, we have posted a free version from the Gutenberg Project.
Have a great time reading this classic work and see you soon!
